Hi

i'm new to this whole thing, can anyone tell me how to create a blog or web page that could be used by a number of people so that we can keep everybody up to speed on what is happening with each other?

You could start a blog and add other users as co-authors of that blog. You can make you posts available to only co-authors (or friends) - you can effectively select to whom it will be visible and who will be able to post in it.
