How do I turn a word into a link?

I can only find advice through google on how to do this in specific blogs like Bloggere etc. How do I turn a word into a link to another website?

just mark the word you want to link with the mouse (p.exp. by double clicking the word) then click on the Link Icon marked in the picture (Its a globe with a clip) - this applies to blogposts as well as internal messages, the picture is from the message system, in the editor for posts you will find the very same icon.
